Thomas Chase’s article ‘One of Music’s True Immortals – Notes on Marcel Dupré and the Legendary Mercury Recordings of 1957 and 1959’ in The Diapason of February 2026 offers a wide-ranging survey of Marcel Dupré (1886–1971), centred above all on his famous Mercury recordings from 1957 and 1959. The essay is chiefly concerned with showing why these late recordings, despite audible limitations, rank among the most important documents in organ history.
