Misericorde 'Willem Vogel' onder een van de koorbanken in de Oude Kerk van Amsterdam

Willem Vogel created liturgical compositions during six decades, primarily in the form of hymns, choral music, and compositions for organ.  This article treats the early organ music of Vogel in particular.

Following a biographical sketch the author presents Vogel’s ideals for organ building and organ repertoire.  Then Vogel’s early organ works are discussed, and the way in which the sound idioms of others influenced his work.  Thereafter one of his organ works is laid on the music-analytical operating table, and in conclusion the value of his organ works is discussed.
