In memoriam Gerrit Klop

by Jan Kleinbussink | Het ORGEL | Year 115 | (2019) | Issue 1

Gerrit Klop died on 5 December, 2018. Visionary craftsman and as instrument maker very much at the center of the stormy development of historically oriented performance practice, which arose in the 2nd half of the previous century: so might one best characterize Gerrit Klop, the founder of the continuo chest-organ. He was constantly in conversation with the performers who played his instruments, listening to their criticisms and wishes, and trying thus to arrive at the best possible artistic and practical result.

Klop made the highest demands in the field of building technique. His organs, based on the implementation of wooden pipes made in his own shop, found buyers throughout the world.
