Cees van der Poel & Henk de Vries ‘Eine Orgel für Bach’ – On the completion of the organ in Hamburg’s St.-Katharinenkirche
Het ORGEL 110 (2014), nr. 2, 24-37 [summary]
It can be called rare in the organ history of the world, that a large city organ lost nearly 71 years ago has been almost completely reconstructed. A new instrument of this size in which the use of historical pipework from the 16th and 17th centuries is possible, is also rare. The birth of a new renaissance/baroque organ for the St.-Katharinenkirche in Hamburg has been completed: on 9 June, 2013, the instrument was inaugurated. Thus a project was ended that in Hamburg had been given the title ‘Eine Orgel für Bach’. The article presents the organ history of the church and the reconstructed organ. Players’ and listeners’ impressions are given.
