The organ that Peter Gerritsz built in 1479 for the Nicolaïkerk in Utrecht is the oldest extant organ of The Netherlands. The [Government] Department of Archeology, Cultural landscape and Monuments (now: [Government] Department of Cultural Heritage) decided in 2009 to make a copy of the organ. The goal of the project was to accumulate knowledge for the restoration and reconstruction of the original, which – except for the bellows and some of the pipework – is extant. The Orgelpark in Amsterdam supported the plan to build a replica and commissioned Orgelmakerij Reil of Heerde to carry out the work. The instrument was placed in the Nicolaïkerk in Utrecht for half a year, so that it could be used for experiments benefitting the restoration and reconstruction of the original organ. In the spring of 2012 the copy was moved to the Orgelpark. Auke H. Vlagsma describes the organ. Cees van der Poel and Sietze de Vries visited the instrument and offer a (sound) impression of the instrument.
