The jazz musician Bert van den Brink studied classical piano at Utrecht Conservatorium as his major subject, with organ as minor. He became a teacher of popular music at the same conservatory. Since he was a youngster, he’s been improvising on piano and organ. Although he’s an autodidact as improviser, he has developed a firm reputation. He was a member of the jury during the Haarlem International Organ improvisation competition of 2008. The interview deals with jazz on the organ and with improvisation.
