Jan Marten de Vries New Listening
Het ORGEL 103 (2007), nr. 6, xx-xx [summary]
Interest in the organ is decreasing rapidly, leading to the question of when and where the organ can still be used. The author makes a case for a new approach which he calls new listening. He developed his ideas through contact with world music from Africa.
Studying and playing music of another culture leads one to approach ones own musical tradition from a totally different standpoint. World music is a way to make music communicatively and to understand ones own tradition better. Much can be won with a different musical standpoint.
