Improvisation crisis

A national crisis in the art of improvisation! That was the word going around after it emerged that no Dutch participant had been selected for this year’s International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem. And in the very year in which this venerable competition celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary. News or … fake news? I would opt for the latter. ‘Crisis’ is a fashionable buzzword that is now used for even a minor setback. ‘Crisis, they’ve run out of soy milk!’ A real crisis is what we are seeing in Ukraine and the Middle East. The word also applies to the condition and state of parliamentary democracy in our own country, to say nothing of other countries
