In this article, Rogér van Dijk examines the life and work of the organ builder Hendricus Dominicus Lindsen (1794–1860), a now relatively little-known representative of nineteenth-century Dutch organ building. Drawing on archival sources and surviving instruments, he outlines Lindsen’s significance as an organ builder. Particular attention is given to the organ built by Lindsen in 1844 for St Augustine’s Church in Utrecht, with discussion of its construction history, later alterations and recent restoration (2015–2024). Van Dijk was involved in this restoration, together with Ton van Eck, as organ consultant on behalf of the KKOR [editorial note].
